This year on Valentine’s Day, please consider doing something great out of love. It’s easy to do things for the special people in our lives but less so for completely strangers. But out there in the world, there are thousands of people hoping and relying on the selflessness of someone they don’t even know to have a chance at life. Thousands of people waiting for that phone call to say that an extremely rare and perfectly matched bone marrow donor has been found. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for that one person in the world that stepped up out of love to give Brandon a chance at life. That was the greatest gift I have ever received and I’m so thankful for the extra time that we had because of it. So today, on the day that we celebrate love, please consider registering to be a bone marrow donor. Giving of yourself without expecting anything in return, is the true definition of love. ❤️ “Not all of us can do great things but we can do small things with great love.” -Mother Teresa If you’re in the United States citizen, you can register at join.bethematch.org **Most countries have their own bone marrow registry programs, however, registries are linked world wide #bethematch #valentinesday #love #truelove #bonemarrowregistry #savealife
Today is World Cancer Day. A day to spread awareness about this disease and to unite under one very powerful cause: to end cancer. I couldn’t let today go by without honouring the bravest person that I’ve ever known, my late husband, Brandon. He greatly impacted the lives of so many during his 2 year battle with leukemia. His beautiful spirit and positivity was inspirational and contagious, and he brightened the life of every person he came in contact with during our journey. He was a part of multiple clinical trials for new leukemia treatments and donated countless blood and bone marrow samples to research efforts aimed at finding a cure. Despite all the horrible odds and statistics, he never gave up the fight. His mission every day was to make the most out of the time that he was given, and to spread all the love and joy that he could along the way. I’m so incredibly proud of all the amazing and brave things that he did during the hardest part of our lives. He is loved and missed by so many, but his legacy lives on through all the lives that he’s impacted and changed. All of that aside, cancer seriously sucks. I can’t ever explain the pain of watching someone you love fight for their life every single day. I hate what cancer has taken from me and how it’s impacted the lives of the people that I love. Cancer has such a huge ripple and it affects us all. I know many of us feel helpless in the face of cancer, but truthfully, there is so much we can all do. In honour of Brandon and countless other people who are fighting for their lives, please consider doing something to make a difference. Be a blood donor, consider joining the stem cell registry, or look for ways that you can raise awareness or fundraise for cancer research in your community. You could also reach out to someone in your life who is currently going or has recently gone through treatment. You have no idea the impact that a phone call or a delivered meal could make in that person’s life. At some point in our lives we will ALL be affected by cancer. We may not be able to take on cancer alone, but together, think of the impact that we could make. #worldcancerday #leukemia #aml
2018. A journey across 11 countries, a 600 mile hike across Spain, a lot of tears and grief, powerful moments of self reflection and healing, a lot of time spent mourning the passing of my husband and best friend, countless amazing friendships formed, challenges that mentally and physically pushed me to the edge of what I thought I could endure, quiet moments of peace and hope, cherished time with family, immeasurable self growth, falling in love with an incredible man, and learning that I’m going to become a mom to a very special baby boy. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but I’m thankful for the journey of 2018. I’m starting 2019 with a better idea of who I am, what I’ve overcome, and how I want to embrace this precious thing called life. ❤️
Ben and I, along with Baby BOY Harrison, would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! ❤️👶🏼🎄
The best things in life are often the most unexpected. Ben and I are so excited to announce that baby Harrison will be joining us in early May 2019. ❤️
Celebrating this very special guy today for his birthday 🥳❤️🎂

Day +100 After Transplant

October 20th, 2016
We made it!
Day +100 after transplant is the first big milestone that a transplant patient reaches. By this point their donor's stem cells should have built them a new and functioning immune system. They have also cleared the time frame where the most serious transplant related complications would occur.

Hi, we’re Brandon and Michelle!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic After meeting online many years ago, Michelle, a native Texan, moved to Canada to be closer to the love of her life, Brandon. In August 2015, Brandon was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. They were married on September 18th, 2015, days after learning that Brandon's second round of chemotherapy had failed. After being told he was terminally ill, they moved to Houston, Texas in February 2016 for Brandon to receive treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. This is their story.
