Starting to pack my hospital bag. I can’t believe we’re going to be meeting this little guy in a months time. I can’t wait to love on him. ❤️

A year ago I started my pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago. This journey would end up taking me 6 weeks to walk almost 600 miles from Saint Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and then onto Finnisterre, aka ‘The End of The Earth,’ where my journey would end. It was a journey I set out to do alone so that I could process and heal from the two years of Brandon’s illness and then his passing. In the beginning, I didn’t quite know what I was getting myself into, but I had a strong intuition that this was the place I was supposed to be. I took my first steps onto the Camino on April 1st, 2018 and my life has never been the same. On the Camino you have one job, to wake up every day and walk for as long as you can. Nothing much matters except for the ground beneath your feet, the interactions with other pilgrims along the journey, where you’re going to find your next meal, and where you’re going to sleep that night. All of the worries of the world that we often spend so much time stressing about on a daily basis, simply don’t matter. When your daily life is stripped down to the basics like walking, eating, sleeping, and real human connections, it allows you to reconnect with yourself and the world in ways that you otherwise couldn’t. The Camino removed all the extra noise from my life so that I could process the past, heal from the trauma, and rediscover who I was at the end (and beginning) of it all. The Camino once again showed me what was important in life and allowed me to gain a new perspective on my future. Despite all the good times captured in photos, It was hard. Some of those days on the Camino walking through the rain and snow, in physical and emotional agony, were some of the hardest and loneliest moments of my life. There were so many times that I wanted to give up and wondered why I was hiking my way across a country thousands of miles from home. But I persisted and continued to put one foot in front of the other, slowly working my way to Santiago and through the pain of the past. I’m so proud that I finished what I set out to do because it has set me on a new path that I am eternally grateful for. (Cont in comments)

This year on Valentine’s Day, please consider doing something great out of love. It’s easy to do things for the special people in our lives but less so for completely strangers. But out there in the world, there are thousands of people hoping and relying on the selflessness of someone they don’t even know to have a chance at life. Thousands of people waiting for that phone call to say that an extremely rare and perfectly matched bone marrow donor has been found. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for that one person in the world that stepped up out of love to give Brandon a chance at life. That was the greatest gift I have ever received and I’m so thankful for the extra time that we had because of it. Day +100 After Transplant

We made it!

Day +100 after transplant is the first big milestone that a transplant patient reaches. By this point their donor's stem cells should have built them a new and functioning immune system. They have also cleared the time frame where the most serious transplant related complications would occur.

Hi, we’re Brandon and Michelle!

After meeting online many years ago, Michelle, a native Texan, moved to Canada to be closer to the love of her life, Brandon. In August 2015, Brandon was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. They were married on September 18th, 2015, days after learning that Brandon's second round of chemotherapy had failed. After being told he was terminally ill, they moved to Houston, Texas in February 2016 for Brandon to receive treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. This is their story.
